Baseball Game Preview: Smithton Tigers vs. Green Ridge Tigers

Smithton will take on Green Ridge at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Smithton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.

Smithton gave up the first runs last Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over Cole Camp. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Tigers.

Ryan Pond made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off 11 hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sam Bray, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Liam Beckett, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last contest, Green Ridge made sure to put some runs up on the board against Stover on Tuesday. The Tigers blew past the Bulldogs 17-2. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matchups by ten runs or more this season.

Smithton's win bumped their record up to 5-6. As for Green Ridge, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.

Smithton took their win against Green Ridge when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 16-1 score. Does Smithton have another victory up their sleeve, or will Green Ridge turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
