The Plainfield Quakers struggled with threes on Wednesday (the Franklin Community Grizzly Cubs had nine more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Plainfield's tough 61-39 loss to Franklin Community might stick with them for a while. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Plainfield has scored all season.
Plainfield's loss came despite strong showings from Hannah Menser and Payton Benge. Menser scored 11 points along with five assists and five rebounds, while Benge scored ten points along with six rebounds. Menser scored a full 28.2% of Plainfield's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Franklin Community's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Scarlett Kimbrell led the charge by scoring 11 points along with seven rebounds. Kimbrell hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Lauren Klem was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Plainfield's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-5. As for Franklin Community, the victory (which was their 11th in a row) raised their record to 16-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Plainfield will face off against Franklin Central at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Franklin Community won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Roncalli at 7:30 p.m. on January 11th. Roncalli is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
