It was a good run, but the Lincolnton Wolves unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Friday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 71-70 to Bunker Hill. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (61), Lincolnton still had to take the loss.
Lincolnton's loss came despite strong showings from Landen Lyerly and Tyler Mcclain. Lyerly dropped a double-double on 23 points and 13 rebounds, while Mcclain scored 20 points along with nine rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Lyerly has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Khamoni Heath, who scored six points along with six rebounds.
Lincolnton's loss ended a eight-game streak of away wins and brought them to 15-3. As for Bunker Hill, their win bumped their record up to 4-13.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lincolnton on the road again on Tuesday and play against Newton-Conover at 7:30 p.m. on January 30th. One thing working in Newton-Conover's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last 11 matchups. As for Bunker Hill, they will head out on the road to take on West Caldwell at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. West Caldwell presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Bunker Hill in North Carolina (West Caldwell is ranked 85th, while Bunker Hill is ranked 413th).
