The Valparaiso Vikings entered their tilt with the Chesterton Trojans with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Valparaiso strolled past Chesterton with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 31-14. Given Valparaiso's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana football rankings (they are ranked 23rd, while Chesterton is ranked 106th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Valparaiso was led to victory by Justin Clark and Thomas Burda. Clark only threw for 13 passing yards and failed to score a touchdown in addition to 99 yards on the ground, while Burda rushed for 156 yards while picking up 9.2 yards per carry. Burda was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 63 yards.
When it comes to explaining why Chesterton lost, one person who can't be blamed is Garrett Lewis. Despite the final result, he rushed for 82 yards and two touchdowns.
Valparaiso's victory bumped their record up to 8-2. As for Chesterton, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-8 record this season.
Valparaiso will be playing at home against Michigan City at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Michigan City focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up four on Friday. Chesterton does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
