The Shaker Bison will face off against the Colonie Central Wolfpack at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Shaker has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with four straight losses, while Colonie Central will come in with five straight victories.
On Monday, Shaker came up short against Bethlehem Central and fell 4-1.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Colonie Central). They put the hurt on Albany with a sharp 20-3 win on Monday. Considering the Wolfpack have won four games by more than eight runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Ashley Hacker and Sydney Cataldo made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Hacker tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Meanwhile, Cataldo pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Hacker has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. At the plate, Hacker went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI, while Cataldo went 4-for-6 with two runs and two RBI.
In other batting news, Colonie Central got a massive performance out of Taylor Parisi, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Jadeyn Barbero, who got on base in four of her six plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and two RBI.
Colonie Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .395. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .308 or higher in six consecutive contests.
Colonie Central pushed their record up to 8-2 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Shaker, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-5.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Shaker hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Colonie Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging 1 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Shaker beat Colonie Central 4-1 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Bison repeat their success, or do the Wolfpack have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
