Even though the Yreka Miners scored an imposing 56 points on Tuesday, the University Prep Panthers still came out on top. University Prep enjoyed a cozy 74-56 win over Yreka. Given University Prep's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 368th, while Yreka is ranked 859th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead University Prep to victory, but perhaps none more so than Trey Pringle, who scored 17 points along with seven assists and seven rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Pringle has scored all season. Scott Steffan was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with seven rebounds and five steals.
Yreka's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Gio McEwen, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds, and Skyler McLane who scored eight points along with ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Dunbar, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds.
University Prep has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-8 record this season. As for Yreka, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-13.
University Prep will head out on the road to take on West Valley at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive. As for Yreka, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Anderson at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Anderson is no doubt hoping to put an end to a seven-game streak of away losses.
