The Pinellas Park Patriots will head out to square off against the Dunedin Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Pinellas Park is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
Pinellas Park will bounce into Thursday's contest after beating Seminole, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. Pinellas Park won by a run and slipped past Seminole 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Patriots have posted since March 21, 2024.
Ayanah Wilson made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Wilson was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing Three bases. while going 1-for-2. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Danielle Overman was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. Sohpie Sokolowski also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
While Dunedin didn't have the best season last year (they finished 11-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top against Hollins by a score of 8-4 on Tuesday.
Like Pinellas Park, Dunedin also got a great game from a two-way player: Abby McLemore. She struck out ten batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. McLemore has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
McLemore wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Maelaea Johnson, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. Jillian Ellison was another, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
Dunedin was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hollins only posted a batting average of .250.
Dunedin's win was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for Pinellas Park, their record is now 3-4.
Thursday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Pinellas Park has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .442. However, it's not like Dunedin struggles in that department as they've averaged .444. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Pinellas Park skirted past Dunedin 8-7 in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Pinellas Park since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
