On Friday, The Lake Oswego Lakers faced the Jesuit Crusaders in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Lake Oswego took a 34-28 hit to the loss column at the hands of Jesuit. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Lake Oswego in their matchups with Jesuit: they've now lost three in a row.
Despite the loss, Lake Oswego still got an impressive performance from Lamarcus Bell, who rushed for 134 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries. Bell was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 54 yards.
Jesuit got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Lonnie Burt out in front who rushed for 186 yards and a touchdown. Burt hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for five straight games. Elias Johnson was in the mix as well, providing Jesuit with two touchdowns.
Lake Oswego's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 6-4. The slump could be explained by some tough opposition over that stretch, namely Jesuit, Lakeridge, and Tualatin. As for Jesuit, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 6-4.
Lake Oswego does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Jesuit will square off against West Linn at TBD on Friday. One thing working in West Linn's favor is that they have now posted big point totals every time they've taken the field this season.
