The Natalia Mustangs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their eighth straight loss. They were the victim of a rough 63-42 defeat at the hands of Lytle. While losing is never fun, Natalia can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1300th, while Lytle is ranked 335th).
Leading Lytle to victory were Arianna Garcia and Calyssa Sevier. Garcia dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Sevier dropped a double-double on 23 points and 11 steals. The game was Sevier's 24th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mona Perez, who scored five points.
Natalia has not been sharp recently, as they've lost 11 of their last 13 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-16 record this season. As for Lytle, their win bumped their record up to 17-7.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Natalia will face off against Crystal City at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Crystal City will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak. As for Lytle, they will head out on the road to face off against Cotulla at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Cotulla comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 24 points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
