The Cortland Purple Tigers are taking a road trip to square off against the Skaneateles Lakers at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Skaneateles will take on a team with plenty of momentum: Cortland extended their winning streak to seven on Thursday. The Purple Tigers blew past Moravia 10-1.
Cal Albright made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Zach Muir was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Owen Johnson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and one RBI.
Cortland was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .310 or higher in eight consecutive matchups.
Skaneateles came out on top against Cazenovia on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run second inning. Skaneateles' pitcher stepped up to hand Cazenovia a 10-0 shutout.
The team relied heavily on Shea Musso, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Hugh Carroll, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
Cortland pushed their record up to 9-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Skaneateles, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-5 record this season.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Cortland hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .408. However, it's not like Skaneateles struggles in that department as they've averaged .328. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
