It was a good run, but the Sanderson Eagles unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Saturday. They were the victim of a tough 36-15 defeat at the hands of Van Horn. Sanderson lost against Van Horn in their previous head to head back in December of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 48-16 score last time.
Van Horn's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Malia Bermudez led the charge by scoring nine points. Amy Garcia was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Sanderson's loss dropped their record down to 7-9. As for Van Horn, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a massive bump to their 8-6 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sanderson will take on Pecos at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Van Horn will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Sierra Blanca at 6:00 p.m. on December 19th. Sierra Blanca comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 19 points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
