The Southwest Roughriders can finally bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Thursday. They took their game on the road with ease, bagging a 42-12 victory over Franklin. That looming 42-12 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Southwest yet this season.
Southwest's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Anastasia Gallegos, who scored four points along with six assists and six rebounds. Gallegos set a new season high mark in steals with six. Another player making a difference was Payton Truksa, who scored 13 points.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Franklin struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Southwest racked up 13 assists.
Southwest's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-5. As for Franklin, their loss was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-6.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Southwest will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Hitchcock County on January 2, 2024. Franklin will finish 2023 at home by hosting Giltner at 3:00 p.m. on December 29th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Nebraska (Giltner is ranked 273rd, while Franklin is ranked 266th).
