Even though the Cherry Creek Bruins scored an imposing 57 points on Saturday, the Doherty Spartans still came out on top. Doherty took their matchup against Cherry Creek 67-57. Winning is a bit easier when you work as a team to rack up seven more assists than your opponent, as Doherty did.
Doherty was led to victory by Elijah Mack and Maddox Dee-Mortensen. Mack scored 17 points along with three steals, while Dee-Mortensen scored 18 points along with six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Dee-Mortensen has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of James Pulliam, who scored 14 points along with two steals.
Cherry Creek lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jeremiah Hammond, who scored 26 points. Jonathan Lyons was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with nine rebounds and two blocks.
Doherty has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a massive bump to their 7-5 record this season. As for Cherry Creek, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 6-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Doherty will square off against Liberty at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Liberty is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak. As for Cherry Creek, they will head out on the road to take on Arapahoe at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Colorado (Arapahoe is ranked 55th, while Cherry Creek is ranked 37th).
