Arete Prep has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against the Gilbert Classical Academy Spartans at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Arete Prep focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 30 on Thursday.
Last Thursday, Arete Prep came up short against Leading Edge Academy - GEC and fell 48-40. While losing is never fun, Arete Prep can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 244th, while Leading Edge Academy - GEC is ranked 104th).
Despite their loss, Arete Prep saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Sophia De La Rosa, who scored nine points along with ten rebounds and two steals, was perhaps the best of all. De La Rosa has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. Livia Emery was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Gilbert Classical Academy posted their biggest win since December 6, 2023 on Monday. Everything went their way against San Tan Charter as Gilbert Classical Academy made off with a 39-13 win.
Arete Prep's loss dropped their record down to 6-13. As for Gilbert Classical Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 8-9.
Arete Prep strolled past Gilbert Classical Academy when the teams last played back in February of 2023 by a score of 38-19. The rematch might be a little tougher for Arete Prep since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
