The Morgan County Cougars are taking a road trip to square off against the Buckhorn Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Morgan County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.
Buckhorn will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Morgan County extended their winning streak to three on Saturday. The Cougars put the hurt on Magoffin County with a sharp 8-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won six games by six runs or more so far this season.

Jayden Willis and Parker Trusty made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Willis didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over five innings pitched. Meanwhile, Trusty tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Morgan County is 4-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 5-8 otherwise. At the plate, Willis went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI, while Trusty went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Trusty has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Grayson Hampton, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Isaac Campbell was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.
Morgan County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .562. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Magoffin County only posted an OBP of .148.
Meanwhile, Buckhorn unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Friday. They lost 14-3 to Pike County Central.
Austin Riley and Gunner Gay did some serious damage despite the final result: Riley went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run, while Gay got on base in two of his three plate appearances with four stolen bases and one run.
The win got Morgan County back to even at 9-9. As for Buckhorn, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-14.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Morgan County has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Buckhorn struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Morgan County came out on top in a nail-biter against Buckhorn when the teams last played back in May of 2017, sneaking past 4-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
