While it was all tied up 28-28 at halftime, the Acalanes Dons were not quite the Campolindo Cougars's equal in the second half on Friday. Acalanes was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 52-51 to Campolindo. While losing is never fun, Acalanes can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 478th, while Campolindo is ranked 62nd).
Acalanes' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Liam Krackeler, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Preston Hilsabeck, who scored nine points.
Campolindo's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Gavin Rendle, who scored 14 points. Dylan Mansour was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with nine rebounds.
Acalanes has been struggling recently, as they've lost 12 of their last 15 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-14 record this season. As for Campolindo, their win was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Acalanes will take on Berean Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. The pair have had a bumpy ride up to this point with seven consecutive losses apiece. As for Campolindo, they will play host again and welcome Benicia, where tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Benicia knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 13 contests -- so hopefully Campolindo likes a good challenge.
