MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo. - Special teams carried
Manitou Springs (Colo.) to a 42-0 victory over St. Mary's (Colorado Springs, Colo.) on Saturday as the return units contributed two touchdowns. The special teams of the Mustangs scored on two punt returns.
After taking the lead on a
Morgan Burnell touchdown run in the second quarter, Manitou Springs led 14-0 at the half.
MS grew its lead to 28 points entering the fourth quarter. The Mustangs scored two times in the third, including once on a touchdown catch by
Drew Faloon.
Even though Manitou Springs led by 28 points at the start of the fourth quarter, it didn't let up, scoring 14 in the quarter.
The victory is a complete turnaround from last season's game between these two teams, which the Pirates took, 52-19.
Manitou Springs (4-0) will play a 2A Tri-Peaks game against Florence next week, while St. Mary's (0-4) will take on Alamosa also in a 2A Tri-Peaks game.
