V Section IV recap October 29, 2013
Adding to the longest winning streak in V Section IV this week, Tempe Prep beat Sequoia 62-12. This was the team's sixth consecutive win.
Valley Christian took down Paradise Honors 73-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Brandon Haagsma threw for 241 yards and 3 touchdowns in the win.
Shea Duross was a key player and the best on defense this week as Tempe Prep topped the Stallions. He racked up 2 sacks.
Nick Smith threw for 191 yards and 5 touchdowns.
Cory Kasperson was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 145 yards on 13 carries as the Trojans beat Paradise Honors. Teammate Sam Feenstra added to the ground attack by rushing for 23 yards.
Scottsdale Preparatory Academy's Smith and Matt Munsil led the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-2 quarterback Smith has thrown for 2,309 yards this season, while Munsil has 48 catches for 1,023 yards. Zechariah Gatling from Scottsdale Christian Academy leads the league in rushing with 1,011 yards.
The top two teams in V Section IV will face off this week when first place Scottsdale Preparatory Academy takes on second place Tempe Prep. The Spartans beat Chandler Prep last week, while Thomas Brittain's team defeated Sequoia.
Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when Scottsdale Preparatory Academy takes on the Knights. Will Munsil's team's offense has racked up 419 points this season, earning them the top spot in the league, while Tempe Prep has allowed only 121 on the year.
Fans will be thrilled by an exciting game in the secondary when the Spartans' Munsil goes up against the Knights' Benjamin LeBeau.
Next week's game between Scottsdale Preparatory Academy and Tempe Prep will feature an aerial matchup as Smith tests his arm against LeBeau's defensive ability.
