The Wirt County Tigers won the last time they faced the Calhoun Red Devils, and things went their way on Wednesday too. Wirt County really took it to Calhoun for the full four quarters, racking up a 63-34 win at home. That 63-34 margin sets a new team best for Wirt County this season.
Wirt County was led to victory by Connor Hoover and Braylan Dawson. Hoover dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Dawson scored 19 points along with six rebounds. The matchup was Dawson's seventh in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Bevel, who scored eight points.
Calhoun's loss came despite strong showings from Owen Taylor and Jacob Marks. Taylor scored ten points, while Marks scored six points.
Wirt County now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Calhoun, they now have a losing record at 3-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wirt County will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Williamstown at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Williamstown's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season. As for Calhoun, they will head out on the road to face off against Van at 7:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024.
