Softball Recap: Make It Seven in a Row for Horseshoe Bend

Horseshoe Bend came tearing into Saturday's game with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.2 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Central of Clay County Volunteers with a sharp 6-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Generals, who have now won nine contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Brynlee Alford made a big impact no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over six innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up a single earned run in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs and four RBI while going 3-for-3. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Marigrace Jones, who went 2-for-3 with one home run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Caralina Tidwell, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.

Horseshoe Bend was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .458. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .350 or higher in three consecutive matches.

Horseshoe Bend's victory was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Central of Clay County, the defeat snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 10-9 record.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Horseshoe Bend will square off against Reeltown at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Central of Clay County, they will take on Sylacauga at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
