TATUM, N.M. - Carrizozo (N.M.) came into Saturday's contest ranked No. 4 in New Mexico, but was stunned by
Tatum (N.M.), 38-8. Tatum was ranked at No. 10 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for New Mexico coming into the week.
After taking the lead on a touchdown pass by
Jaden Kirkpatrick to
Cristian Hinojosa in the second quarter, the Coyotes were up 16-8 at the half.
Tatum grew its lead to 16 points entering the fourth quarter. THS scored two times in the third, including once on a
Hayden Wood touchdown run.
A 14-point fourth quarter was enough to cement the win for the Coyotes, as they pushed the final margin of victory to 30.
Carrizozo's only touchdown came on a 5-yard run by Nick Chavez in the first quarter.
Tatum went into the matchup giving up only 17.6 points per game. Carrizozo's eight points were well below their season average of 52.8 per game.
THS also won the meeting between the two teams last season, 44-8.
The loss comes after Carrizozo defeated Tse' Yi' Gai 59-0 last week. With the win the Coyotes extended their winning streak to three games.
