Softball Recap: Northwood Has No Trouble Against Lakeview

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Northwood and Lakeview meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Tuesday. Northwood blew past Lakeview 22-4. Considering Northwood has won nine games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Kelsey Bennett was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over four innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. That's the fewest hits she has allowed over her last 11 matches. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing Three bases. while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged two or more in each of the last four games she's played.

In other batting news, Morgan Daigle was a standout: she got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.2 stolen bases per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Micheala Bolden, who scored three runs and stole Seven bases. while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.

Northwood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .810. The last time their OBP was this high was back in February.

Northwood is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 14.3 runs. Lakeview is on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Northwood beat Lakeview by a score of 21-2 later that day.
