Baseball Recap: Lincoln Southwest Comes Up Short

Lincoln Southwest extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping their season record down to 12-9 in the process. They lost 10-3 to the Creighton Prep Junior Jays. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Silver Hawks have suffered since April 10th.

Lincoln Southwest saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brennan Vernon, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. Vernon is becoming a predictor of the Silver Hawks' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 5-1 (and 7-8 when he doesn't). Luke Mitchell was another, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

As for Creighton Prep, the win got them back to even at 11-11. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their two-run performance the game before.

On Creighton Prep's side, Vinny Constantino looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Constantino has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Liam Smithberg and Teddy Stratman did most of the damage at the plate: Smithberg went 3-for-4 with four RBI and two doubles, while Stratman got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs and two RBI. Those two doubles gave Smithberg a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Logan Burchfiel, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Looking ahead, Lincoln Southwest will be taking part in a tournament against Norris at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Silver Hawks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Titans have averaged an impressive 6.7 runs per game this season. As for Creighton Prep, they will take on Lincoln North Star at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
