Basketball Recap: Magnolia West Takes a Loss

Magnolia West was the 49-48 winner over Klein Cain when they last played one another back in November of 2018, but their luck changed this time around. The Magnolia West Mustangs took a 58-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Klein Cain Hurricanes on Friday.

When it comes to explaining why Magnolia West lost, don't look at Jayden Zinn. Despite the final result, he went 9 of 10 on his way to 23 points and eight rebounds. The dominant performance gave Zinn a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryson Wright, who posted 11 points.

Even though they lost, Magnolia West was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in four consecutive games.

Magnolia West has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-17 record this season. As for Klein Cain, with the win, they broke their six-game losing streak and moved their record to 5-14.

Magnolia West and Klein Cain could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. Magnolia West (ranked 1092nd) will meet Klein Forest (ranked 440th) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Similarly, Klein Cain (ranked 879th) will meet Klein (ranked 395th) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
