The Grayslake North Knights are taking a road trip to challenge the Carmel Corsairs at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Grayslake North is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.9 runs per game this season.
Grayslake North came into their game on Tuesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against Lakes, falling 22-9. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Knights have suffered against the Eagles since May 24, 2022.
Alyson Alvarenga made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with three runs.
Meanwhile, Carmel was able to grind out a solid victory over Grant Community on Monday, taking the game 14-9.
The team relied heavily on Grace Brown, who fired off two home runs, six RBI, and one stolen base while going 2-for-3. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Kate Buckingham, who went 3-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Carmel kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.
Carmel's win bumped their record up to 13-6. As for Grayslake North, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-7 record this season.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Grayslake North hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .365. However, it's not like Carmel struggles in that department as they've averaged .337. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Grayslake North came out on top in a nail-biter against Carmel in their previous meeting back in April of 2022, sneaking past 2-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Knights since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
