The Haysville Campus Colts put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They walked away with a 68-60 win over Maize. Given Haysville Campus' advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 21st, while Maize is ranked 113th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Andrell Burton, Jr was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 34 points and 15 rebounds. The contest was his fourth in a row with at least ten points. Kaason Thomas was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with five assists and four steals.
Despite the defeat, Maize saw an underclassman step up: Brayden Myovela scored 12 points along with six rebounds and five assists. Those five assists set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Charles Sharp, who scored seven points.
Haysville Campus' victory bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Maize, they now have a losing record at 2-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Haysville Campus will be home for the holidays to greet Hutchinson at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hutchinson is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road. As for Maize, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on South on December 19th. Hopefully South focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 29 on Friday.
