This season hasn't been kind to the Bethany Christian Bruins, who are still winless after their fifth matchup. They fell to Lakeland 51-47. Bethany Christian lost against Lakeland in their previous head to head back in December of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 76-45 score last time.
Bethany Christian's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Carter Miller, who scored 13 points. Miller continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Ayden Falcon was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Even though they lost, Bethany Christian were working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Lakeland to victory, but perhaps none more so than Keegan Merrifield, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds. Those six rebounds set a new season-high mark for Merrifield. The team also got some help courtesy of Nate Keil, who scored ten points along with six rebounds.
Bethany Christian's loss was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 0-5. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the losses came by an average of only 4.67 points. As for Lakeland, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.
Bethany Christian's road trip will continue as they head out to face Triton at 7:30 p.m. on December 12th. Triton is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling. Lakeland will be home for the holidays to greet Eastside at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
