Sweetwater is 8-2 against Southwest SD since March of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The two teams, after both having extra time off, will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field at 3:30 p.m. Sweetwater is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.7 runs per game this season.
Sweetwater fell victim to Morse and their airtight pitching crew last Monday. They came up short against the Tigers, falling 10-0. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, the Red Devils' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Sweetwater saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emily Romero, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Southwest SD). They blew past Orange Glen 29-19 last Tuesday. Considering the Raiders have won five matchups by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Southwest SD let Aketzalli Rodriguez and Sophia Borquez run wild. Rodriguez went 4-for-7 with six runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI, while Borquez got on base in six of her seven plate appearances with seven RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those seven RBI gave Borquez a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Julianna Torres, who got on base in four of her seven plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.
Southwest SD always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .603. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
The victory made it two in a row for Southwest SD and bumps their season record up to 5-6. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 27.0 runs over those games. As for Sweetwater, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-3 record this season.
Southwest SD's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Sweetwater has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.3 hits per game. It's a different story for Southwest SD, though, as they've been averaging 9.1 hits. Given Sweetwater's sizable advantage in that area, the Raiders will need to find a way to close that gap.
Sweetwater got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in February against Southwest SD by a conclusive 17-5 score. Will the Red Devils repeat their success, or do the Raiders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
