Mayville extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping their season record down to 4-5 in the process. They came up short against the Millington Cardinals, falling 9-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Wildcats have suffered since April 9th.
Mayville saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ty Davidson, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run.
As for Millington, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games.
On Millington's side, Garret Woodward and Truk Terbush were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Woodward tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Terbush pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. At the plate, Woodward went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Terbush went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Landon Russell, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Brayden Strunk was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mayville will take on Memphis at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Yellowjackets will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Wildcats surely won't give up without a fight. As for Millington, they will square off against Reese at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Rockets' pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so the Cardinals' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
