The North Greene Spartans will face off against the Beardstown Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. North Greene's hitters haven't had much luck over their past three contests, but Tuesday's matchup will give them a chance to turn things around.
Calhoun hit North Greene with a five-run fifth inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Spartans lost 11-1 to the Warriors.
North Greene saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brooklyn Sharrow, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI. That RBI was Sharrow's first of the season.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Beardstown faced off against Camp Point Central on Monday. The Tigers skirted past the Panthers 6-5. That's two games straight that the Tigers have won by just one run.
Khloe Kearns spent all 11 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up 17 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Kylynn Maltby and Bella Palmer did most of the damage at the plate: Maltby went 1-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one stolen base, while Palmer went 2-for-5 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI Maltby has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Vanessa Nu?ez, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Beardstown is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for North Greene, their loss dropped their record down to 2-11.
North Greene might still be hurting after the 17-2 defeat they got from Beardstown in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Will the Spartans have more luck at home instead of on the road?
