Creighton Prep and Elkhorn South are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2019, but likely not for long. The Junior Jays are taking a road trip to take on the Storm at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Creighton Prep will aim to continue their five-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.
Creighton Prep is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Omaha Northwest a 24-0 shutout on Tuesday. The Junior Jays haven't had any issues with the Huskies recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.
Jack Cosgrove looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.

On the hitting side, Creighton Prep got a massive performance out of Logan Burchfiel, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Burchfiel has become a key player for the Junior Jays: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-7 otherwise. Charlie Ziola also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Creighton Prep always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. They are 4-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Elkhorn South, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They blew past Buena Vista 13-2 on Monday. That 11 run margin sets a new team best for the Storm this season.
Casey Driver looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Kaleb Peters was a standout: he scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. Tyler Lofdahl was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Creighton Prep's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-7. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Elkhorn South, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Creighton Prep has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Elkhorn South struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Creighton Prep came up short against Elkhorn South in their previous matchup back in March, falling 7-4. Can the Junior Jays avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
