The Thomson Bulldogs will be playing at home against the Glenn Hills Spartans at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Thomson has seven straight wins, Glenn Hills has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Thomson put the finishing touches on their sixth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They blew past Putnam County 56-6 on the road. Given Thomson's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 99th, while Putnam County is ranked 265th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Thomson got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jahkiaus Jones out in front who threw for 276 yards and three touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes. Anthony Jeffery was another key contributor, rushing for 139 yards and a touchdown on only 13 carries.
Meanwhile, Glenn Hills took a serious blow against Putnam County on October 6th, falling 47-12. That's two games in a row now that Glenn Hills has lost by exactly 35 points.
Thomson's victory was their seventh straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 7-1. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-9 Jefferson County and 1-7 Josey (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 34.4% over those games). As for Glenn Hills, their loss dropped their record down to 1-7.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's game: Thomson has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 227.8 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Glenn Hills, though, as they've been averaging only 12 per game. How will Glenn Hills fare against such a dominant running game?
Everything came up roses for Thomson against Glenn Hills in their previous meeting back in October of 2022 as the team secured a 61-0 win. Does Thomson have another victory up their sleeve, or will Glenn Hills turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
