Calhoun is a perfect 3-0 against Springfield since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Warriors will be playing in front of their home fans against the Senators at 4:30 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Calhoun 1.5, Springfield 2.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Springfield will be up against a hot Calhoun team: the squad just extended their winning streak to four. The Warriors' pitchers stepped up to hand Routt Catholic a 16-0 shutout on Thursday. Considering the Warriors have won six matches by more than eight runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Audrey Gilman and Anabel Eilerman were a major factor while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Gilman struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Eilerman tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Gilman has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in ten consecutive appearances. At the plate, Gilman got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Eilerman scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances. That triple was Gilman's first of the season.
In other batting news, Lilly Pelletier and Layla Longnecker did most of the damage at the plate: Pelletier scored two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances, while Longnecker scored two runs while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits Longnecker has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kiera Sievers, who scored two runs and stole a base.
Calhoun was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Springfield hadn't done well against Normal University recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Senators came out on top against the Pioneers by a score of 6-2. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Senators.
Mia Volpert made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out 15 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and only one walk). Volpert was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.
Volpert wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Keilyn Howard, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. Erin Stoops was another, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Springfield's win bumped their record up to 7-1. As for Calhoun, their victory bumped their record up to 9-2.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Calhoun has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.6 hits per game. However, it's not like Springfield struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 2.9 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Calhoun came out on top in a nail-biter against Springfield in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 2-0. Do the Warriors have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Senators turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
