The Phillipsburg Panthers were the 54-37 winner over the Plainville Cardinals when they last played one another back in December of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Phillipsburg fell 56-48 to Plainville on Friday.
Despite the defeat, Phillipsburg had strong showings from Caden Seems, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds, and Rad Rodriguez, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. The match was Seems' third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Trey Carlson, who scored six points.
Phillipsburg's defeat dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Plainville, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Phillipsburg's road trip will continue as they head out to face Beloit on December 19th. Beloit presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Phillipsburg in Kansas (Beloit is ranked 28th, while Phillipsburg is ranked 115th). Plainville will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Victoria on January 2, 2024. Hopefully Victoria focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Tuesday.
