It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Hillsdale had no problem doing just that on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over the Liberty Hawks. Winning may never get old, but the Fighting Knights sure are getting used to it with their sixth in a row.
Lola Jones spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Sophia Shelton was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Hillsdale's record is now 20-9-1. As for Liberty, they moved to 23-9 with that loss, which also ended their seven-game winning streak.
Coming up, Hillsdale will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Cardinal Newman at 4:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Fighting Knights 2.1, the Cardinals 2) so any runs scored will be well earned. Liberty does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
