The Mayfield Trojans will head out to take on the Manzano Monarchs at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Mayfield has nine straight victories, Manzano has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Mayfield's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Saturday. They blew past Belen 17-0. The Trojans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by six runs or more this season.
Ariana Lujan made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. Lujan was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Ausaundra Roberto was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Genesis Angel, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Mayfield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .636. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Belen only posted an OBP of .231.
Manzano couldn't beat Del Norte on Saturday even though they stacked five runs on them in the sixth inning. The Monarchs fell 14-9 to the Knights.
Kiara Laweka made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Shania Aragon, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Mayfield's record is now 9-0. As for Manzano, their loss dropped their record down to 2-10.
Saturday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Mayfield hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .442. However, it's not like Manzano struggles in that department as they've averaged .336. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Mayfield's way against Manzano in their previous matchup back in March of 2025, as Mayfield made off with a 16-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
