The Boardman Spartans will take on the Canfield Cardinals at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Boardman is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.

Boardman is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Ohio's top teams: Walsh Jesuit, who was ranked fifth at the time (Boardman was ranked ninth). The Spartans never let the Warriors get on the board and left with a 7-0 win on Wednesday. The Spartans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 contests by six runs or more this season.

The result came thanks to Gabi Sferra's shutout, as she gave up just three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Kenzie Cherne was excellent, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Mikayla Rivera, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Canfield sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-7 victory over Marlington on Friday. The win continues a trend for the Cardinals in their matchups with the Dukes: they've now won three in a row.

Boardman has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Canfield, their win bumped their record up to 14-2-1.

Boardman might still be hurting after the 6-0 defeat they got from Canfield in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Spartans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
