Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for The Riverdale Country Falcons, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They took a 21-14 hit to the loss column at the hands of Poly Prep Country Day on Friday. Riverdale Country has not had much luck with Poly Prep Country Day recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
When it comes to explaining why Riverdale Country lost, one person who can't be blamed is James Spiegel. Despite the final result, he rushed for 107 yards on only 14 carries, and also threw for 110 yards and two touchdowns. Spiegel is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last three games he's played.
Poly Prep Country Day was led to victory by Trent Winston and Marco Smith. Winston rushed for 158 yards and a touchdown while picking up 8.8 yards per carry, while Smith rushed for 169 yards and a touchdown on only 12 carries. Winston's longest rush was for an incredible 76 yards.
Riverdale Country's defeat dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Poly Prep Country Day, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-3.
Riverdale Country does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Poly Prep Country Day will face off against Rye Country Day at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Rye Country Day will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
