After flying high against Belvidere last Thursday, the Bernards Mountaineers came back down to earth. Bernards was just a bucket short of a win on Tuesday and fell 41-40 to the South Hunterdon Eagles. The Mountaineers might have entered gameday a little too confident, resting on the laurels of their 63-53 victory against South Hunterdon when they previously met earlier this month.
Bernards' loss pushed them down to 11-9. South Hunterdon's victory brought them up to 11-8.
Bernards is staying on the road Friday to face off against Ridge. The MaxPreps rankings say the odds are against Bernards, but that can only make success all the sweeter. As for South Hunterdon, they will go up against Warren Hills Regional on Thursday. The Eagles won't have the home-court advantage, but they do enjoy an advantage in the MaxPreps rankings.
