Spackenkill has gone 8-2 against Dover recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Spartans will be playing in front of their home fans against the Dragons at 4:15 p.m. Spackenkill is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.8 runs per game this season.
Spackenkill proved they can win big on Monday (they won by 19) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 victory over Highland. While the Spartans didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-10), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Cadie Hanaburgh made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off 11 hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Adriana Alessandro, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and five RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2025. Maddy Hasbrouck was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one triple.
Meanwhile, Dover hadn't done well against Ellenville recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Dragons' pitchers stepped up to hand the Blue Devils a 16-0 shutout. The Dragons' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Like Spackenkill, Dover also got a great game from a two-way player: Daniella Drake. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Drake was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Francesca Calabro was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Madisyn Reilly, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Dover was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .458. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ellenville only posted a batting average of .167.
Spackenkill's win bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Dover, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.
Dover's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Spackenkill has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9 hits per game. It's a different story for Dover, though, as they've been averaging 12.4 hits. Given Spackenkill's sizable advantage in that area, the Dragons will need to find a way to close that gap.
Spackenkill got the 'W' when the teams last played last Thursday against Dover by a conclusive 13-7 score. Do the Spartans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Dragons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
