Softball Recap: South Florence Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

South Florence never let their opponents score on Monday. Everything went their way against the Independence Blue Devils as they made off with a 10-0 victory. Considering the Bruins have won 12 contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Not much got past Payton Perry, who gave up just seven hits and racked up 11 Ks to keep Independence off the board. Perry has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Ava Black was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Riley Owens, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

The win (which was South Florence's third in a row) raised their record to 18-6. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Independence, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-2.

South Florence didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 3-1 win against Austintown-Fitch on the 22nd. As for Independence, they will challenge Paul VI at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday.
