The Newton Falls Tigers's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Memorial Red Devils at 7:00 p.m. on December 15th. Hopefully Newton Falls focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, Newton Falls strolled past Liberty with points to spare, taking the game 50-31.
Newton Falls' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Carson Howard, who scored 12 points along with five assists and five steals. Howard is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Cameron Huff, who scored 17 points.
Meanwhile, Memorial blew past Garfield, posting a 62-29 win at home. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest victory Memorial has managed all season.
Aziyah Flores was his usual excellent self, scoring 21 points along with nine rebounds and six steals. Those 21 points set a new season-high mark for he. The team also got some help courtesy of Josue Rodriguez, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds.
Newton Falls now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Memorial, the victory also got them back to even at 2-2.
Friday's match is shaping up to be a scrappy matchup: Newton Falls have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 29 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Memorial, though, as they've been averaging only 29.2 rebounds per game. Given Newton Falls' sizeable advantage in that area, Memorial will need to find a way to close that gap.
Newton Falls couldn't quite finish off Memorial in their previous meeting back in February and fell 44-41. Can Newton Falls avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
