Basketball Game Preview: Downtown Magnets Suns vs. USC-MAE Trojans

Downtown Magnets is 9-1 against USC-MAE since December of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The Downtown Magnets Suns will head out on the road to face off against the USC-MAE Trojans at 3:30 p.m. Downtown Magnets will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.

Downtown Magnets will head into Monday's matchup hoping to keep the good times rolling: they had to skate by with only a two-point margin when they last took the court, which might have inspired the 49-point drubbing they dealt Annenberg on Monday. Downtown Magnets breezed by Annenberg to the tune of 68-19. The Suns pushed the score to 63-11 by the end of the third, a deficit the Panthers cut but never quite recovered from.

Justin Huang was his usual excellent self, going 8 for 19 on his way to 17 points in addition to eight steals and six boards. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Agustin, who went 6 of 12 on his way to 13 points and four steals.

Downtown Magnets smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 25 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, USC-MAE came up short against Orthopaedic back in December of 2024 and fell 50-37.

Downtown Magnets has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.3 points per game. As for USC-MAE, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-4 record this season.

Downtown Magnets didn't have too much breathing room in their match against USC-MAE in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, but they still walked away with a 49-43 victory.
