Softball Recap: Avenal Wins Going Away Against Orosi

Avenal had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 14-run drubbing they dealt Orosi on Tuesday. The Buccaneers blew past the Cardinals 18-4. The result was nothing new for the Buccaneers, who have now won 11 contests by eight runs or more so far this season.

Deztiny Hernandez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Hernandez was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Layla Lopez was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Malia Parez, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Avenal was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .485. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Orosi only posted a batting average of .300.

Avenal's record is now 13-4-1. As for Orosi, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 11 of their last 14 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-15-1 record this season.

Avenal wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, an 8-3 victory against Mendota on the 22nd. As for Orosi, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, an 11-7 win against Summit Charter Collegiate Academy on the 22nd.
