The Evansville Reitz Panthers fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against the Evansville Mater Dei Wildcats on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 44-41. Evansville Reitz was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Evansville Mater Dei apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2022.
Despite the defeat, Evansville Reitz saw an underclassman step up: Jaylan Mitchell dropped a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds. The contest was Mitchell's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Evan Hayes, who scored 9 points.
Evansville Reitz has fallen quite a ways from their 19-7 record last season and are now at 1-2. As for Evansville Mater Dei, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Evansville Reitz will take on Indianapolis Arsenal Technical at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Evansville Mater Dei will be home for the holidays to greet North Posey at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
