The New Home Leopards will be playing in front of their home fans against the Smyer Bobcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (New Home has six straight victories, Smyer has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
You're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out for New Home two Fridays ago. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew Seagraves out of the water with a 49-6 final score. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 35-0.
Caleb Cook continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, throwing for 186 yards and three touchdowns while completing 76.9% of his passes, and also punching in a touchdown on the ground. The team also got some help courtesy of Jake Fogerson, who picked up 108 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Smyer took a serious blow against Ropes two Fridays ago, falling 38-6. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Smyer in their matchups with Ropes: they've now lost three in a row.
New Home's victory was their third straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 6-0. They've been dominating across those games too: they took their wins by an average of 38 points. As for Smyer, their defeat was their fifth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 1-5.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday' matchup: New Home has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 167.8 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Smyer, though, as they've been averaging only 56.5 per game. How will Smyer fare against such a dominant running game?
Everything came up roses for New Home against Smyer when the teams last played back in October of 2022 as the team secured a 70-8 win. Does New Home have another victory up their sleeve, or will Smyer turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
