Mercy is 0-10 against Cheshire since April of 2018 but things could change on Monday. The Tigers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Rams at 4:00 p.m.
Mercy is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Connecticut's top teams: Southington, who was ranked seventh at the time (Mercy was ranked 11th). The Tigers fell 9-6 to the Blue Knights on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Cheshire entered their tilt with Hamden on Friday with 11 consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with 12. They never let the Dragons get on the board and left with a 13-0 win. The Rams' pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last four games.
Avery Radford made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Radford was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple was her first of the season.
In other pitching news, Jenica Matos looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over four innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two hits any time she's pitched this season.
Back at the plate, Callan Fleming and Lyla Blair did most of the damage at the plate: Fleming went 2-for-3 with one home run and six RBI, while Blair got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. Ava Pearson was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Cheshire kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive contests.
Cheshire's victory bumped their record up to 12-1. As for Mercy, their loss dropped their record down to 9-4.
