Glenns Ferry is 2-7 against Declo since April of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Pilots are taking a road trip to face off against the Hornets at 4:00 p.m. Glenns Ferry is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.4 runs per game this season.
Glenns Ferry took a loss when they played away from home two weeks ago, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They walked away with a 10-7 win over Idaho City. Junior Sanchez made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 13 over 6.1 innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, Bryce Sterling was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing five bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Glenns Ferry's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 2-1 (and 2-3 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Heath Parsons, who scored a run and stole three bases while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Declo was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their 14th straight defeat dating back to last season. They fell 3-0 to Malad. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, the Hornets' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Declo saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Keston Koyle, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base. Those hits were Koyle's first of the season.
Glenns Ferry pushed their record up to 4-4 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games. As for Declo, their loss dropped their record down to 0-6.
Declo's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Glenns Ferry has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .441. It's a different story for Declo, though, as they've only averaged .346. Will they be able to contain Glenns Ferry's hitters?
Glenns Ferry came up short against Declo in their previous meeting back in April of 2023, falling 4-1. Can the Pilots avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
