Somers has gone a perfect 4-0 against Cheney Tech recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Spartans will look to defend their home field against the Chargers at 1:00 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
Somers is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Bolton with a sharp 10-4 victory on Wednesday. The Spartans haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Brandon Damboragian made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Damboragian was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing four bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Will Accorsi and Andrew Czerwinski did most of the damage at the plate: Accorsi scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances, while Czerwinski scored two runs and stole a base while going 4-for-5. With that strong performance, Accorsi is now averaging an impressive 1.3 stolen bases per game. Another player making a difference was Jack Olearcek, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Somers always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Cheney Tech got the win against Academy of Science and Innovation on Wednesday by a conclusive 11-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Chargers.
Like Somers, Cheney Tech also got a great game from a two-way player: Jovan Garcia. On the mound, he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Garcia was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Morgan Salkeld, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. That triple was his first of the season. Ben Milvae was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2.
Cheney Tech's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Somers, the win got them back to even at 2-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Somers has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Cheney Tech struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Somers' way against Cheney Tech in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Somers made off with an 11-0 victory. Will the Spartans repeat their success, or do the Chargers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
