There's no place like home for the John Paul the Great Academy Guardians, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Saturday. They simply couldn't be stopped on Tuesday as they easily beat Brighton 41-12 at home. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point John Paul the Great Academy had established a 21 point advantage.
John Paul the Great Academy found their leader in underclassman Mia Fuselier, who scored 17 points. Another player making a difference was Mary Rose Guidry, who scored four points along with ten rebounds.
Brighton's loss came despite strong showings from Sophia Varnado and Sophie Caruso. Varnado scored no points along with eight rebounds, while Caruso scored seven points along with seven steals. That was a full 58.3% of Brighton's points, marking the sixth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Even though they lost, Brighton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as John Paul the Great Academy only pulled down eight offensive rebounds.
John Paul the Great Academy's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-6. As for Brighton, they are on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-10.
John Paul the Great Academy will head out on the road to take on the Flame at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. NELA Christian Homeschool presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Guardians in Louisiana (the Flame are ranked 152nd, while the Guardians are ranked 309th). As for Brighton, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against the at 6:30 p.m. Faith Training Christian Academy's defense has only allowed 29.5 points per game this season, so the Bengals' offense will have their work cut out for them.
